It’s an all day affair to load this kiln and the wind was relentless today. Many thanks to Dani, Barb, and Tara for helping apply wadding to pots going in to the kiln and ice for the water we each were downing during momentary pauses. Thom began rolling wadding for bricks, shelves, and pots early on. John placed larger pots on the kiln floor, directly in front of the ash pit. These will get a heavy coat of ash during the firing. Some of these will be side fired on shells. After a day of passing pots, selecting furniture for shelf supports, adding wadding to pots and furniture, and even some light self grinding, I was pretty worn out. It is easy to see why most potters do not choose to wood fire their work. It is arduous and it requires a team of crew and helpers to complete.
